Information

Developers and history

Scilab is a project started by INRIA in 1989. Since then Scilab has been continously improved with a new release every 12 to 18 months. A small group of developers at INRIA-Rocquencourt are maintaining the program. Some of the engineers are also belonging to the Saphir Control group.

Get a very brief summary of Scilab here.

A spinoff project, “Parallel Scilab” also known as Scilab// being developed by ENS-Lyon.

Comparison

We provide an extensive comparison of the elementary properties and features of several clones. For a discussion of Scilab's highlights and lowlights see Scilab Pros&Cons.

Further information

The Scilab Bag-Of-Tricks, Sci-BOT, is a collection of Scilab wisdom and advice, offering insights to Scilab users of any level.

From version 0.14 on, Sci-BOT has got a separate companion package, scibot-examples, containing all example functions from the Appendix of Sci-BOT ready to run.

Extension packages

In our Scilab-extension section, you can download several complete extension packages for free. Currently our free library covers different areas like an implementation of a high-resolution timer to the bindings for one of the most powerful free integration libraries, Quadpack.

If you cannot find what you are looking for, simply contact us. We can write almost any extension package taylor made for your needs.

Patches

Whenever we run into a bug we try to provide a fix as soon as possible. Moreover, unless our customers demand differently, all successfully completed support requests are added to our patch database. This database is syncronized with (spilled out to?) the Scilab developer team from time to time. To give you the maximum benefit of our work, and to minimize the waiting time for a bug fix to appear, the patches are published in our Scilab-patch section.
